Those were the Yuga - 2

The mind and body of most people reading, thinking, talking, and moving is revolving around the pandemic “COVID”. The crisis has gripped some as victims, some as true warriors, some opportunist with greed, some helpless in managing dear ones, some responsible and in wellbeing under God’s Grace. Besides COVID entire mankind has been having its share of calamities and crisis. Humanity is plagued with, illness, unhappiness, selfishness, bad habits, misery, quarrel, terrorism, communal unrest, atrocities, unfairness, corruption, cheating etc. The list is much longer as greed and hatred has become a way of life. Values, morality, sincerity are at all-time low.

A human tendency is to blame it on someone or something, so let’s blame it on “Iron Age of Kali Yuga”, the fourth and final era in the spiritual evolution of man. This thinking to blame Kali Yuga is grossly incorrect, as the most sublime state is attained in this Dark age. Multiple scriptures centuries ago envisaged and scripted the likely evils in this age, knowing that only few will be interested in good karma or Dharmic faith. Multiple scriptures have elaborated with guide lines how to live through this age, least we follow them.

A few quotes from Gurbani & Srimad Bhagvatam;

“The Lord ushered in the Dark Age, the Iron Age of Kali Yuga; three legs of religion were lost, and only the fourth leg remained intact.

Acting in accordance with the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the medicine of the Lord's Name is obtained. Singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, divine peace is obtained. The season of singing the Lord's Praise has arrived; the Lord's Name is glorified, and the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, grows in the field of the body. In the Dark Age of Kali Yuga, if one plants any other seed than the Name, all profit and capital is lost.”SGGS446

Srimad Bhagavatam... “In the age of Kali Yuga men will be perverse in their ways of life- miserly, merciless, greedy, luckless and vindictive on silly grounds” SB12.3.25

“Thieves will lead the country”SB12.3.32

“Vile men, who are no better than cheats, will take to trade and business and introduce dishonest practices in buying and selling”SB12.3.35

“People will fail to take care of their old parents”SB12.3.43

Although Kali-Yuga is an ocean of faults, there is still one good quality about this age: simply by chanting the names of Krishna, one can become free from material bondage and be promoted to the transcendental kingdom.” Śrimad Bhagavatām 12.3.52

“In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, you have obtained this human body, so very difficult to obtain. This opportunity shall not come into your hands again. So chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and the noose of Death shall be cut away. You shall not have to come and go in reincarnation over and over again, if you chant and meditate on the One and Only Lord.”SGGS258
