Truly Yours - Opposition

Opposition means resistance or dissent with someone or something expressed in action or argument. Opposition is not at all a bad word and never a bad initiative, when it reasons with facts and statistics as a better alternate. Many minds in Opposition have graduated to work as contrarian. These are those minds who take to oppose popular views or practices, especially for the sake of being difficult and contentious, bringing a bad reputation to the word “Opposition”. A knife in the hands of a murderer kills, but heals when in the hands of a surgeon.

Each of us has tasted opposition giving or receiving when associated with school, college, work, society and even in one’s home. These experiences would have brought a realization, that internal resistance often fails the initiative of change. An old research states across industries and sectors, the track record for organizational change failure is around 50- 75 percent.

Opposing their Opposition are minds who conduct themselves fairly with responsibility. If they oppose it is backed with options supported with facts and figures. They value to be part of the bigger picture and share accountability and responsibility during failures. Their minds are open to consider a change in themselves before bringing a change in others. Education & training is always happening with them and their ability to listen creates the space of being heard later. They understand the need to respect every human hence they separate the person from the issue.

Indeed a truly yours – Opposition.

In a Political Institution Opposition has a very crucial role to play, keeping the government at check and complimenting their presence with appropriate inputs. The size and the population India is, presence of multiple problems/crisis bound to exist. Finding solutions and managing conditions has to be exercised by the Ruling party with participation of the Opposition Party. In my post, I will refer them as Elected party and Alternate party. Over the years the two sides in governance have grossly misunderstood their status. The Elected Party need not advocate unquestionable authority and Alternate Party need not advocate complete resistance all the time. The 5year term is not a test for the Elected party alone. The Alternate party’s conduct and contribution is also on review whether they are worthy for governance next term. The party first ideology of political parties is fragmenting our country. The Nation has to win/prosper and not a party. Both sides glorify each other’s failures to get citizens sympathy. Time to get wiser and question the party who complains, “where were you and why did you let it happen”. For crisis within their party they hold closed door meetings but on national sensitive issues they are vociferous outside parliament, a national embarrassment.

Is politics anyone’s cup of tea. Is it as simple as in context of a Pidgin saying “Monkey See, Monkey Do”.

Coming together, Staying together, Working together is not a new mantra.
