At tender age humans master the skills of possessing things and taking ownership of them. One is very possessive of his ownership to property, position, land, articles, business, people, patents etc. He would go to any extent legally or using his greed characteristics with force, in retaining its ownership.

Isn’t it quite contrary to see humans then ignore taking ownership of their faults?. They would lie, falsely testify and do just anything to avoid taking ownership of their FAULT. Indeed faults are unattractive or unsatisfactory features in place of work or in a person’s character. It is their fragile ego, brittle self-esteem a weak psychological constitution that influences them not accepting fault. Invariably they would reason to blame it on someone or something. Not realizing sometime it’s better to admit your fault before someone exaggerates the story. One must realize if you made one mistake but if you do not accept the fault you have committed the second.

The word fault in geography has its own meaning. “A fault is a fracture or zone of fractures between two blocks of rock, allowing the blocks to move relative to each other.” The human act of being in fault and not taking ownership can distance you from people. A few may not possess the self-awareness necessary to know they have wronged people or have misjudged a situation. But largely everyone is trying to convince the other is in wrong and missing the learning that one man’s fault is other man’s lesson. It is also sad and unfortunate when one accepts their fault, there are a few who make them feel inferior and miserable holding grudge upon them for times to come. This thought largely contributes many from taking ownership.

Learn & develop the ability to show fallibility, admit wrongdoing, listen to tough feedback and persevere through the corrective action towards the next challenge. In today’s time to be associated, related and connected with a person who can own his fault is a blessing. It takes guts and humility to admit faults, surely a courage and not weakness. While admitting faults can be very embarrassing, it may just endear others towards you for your honesty in taking ownership of your fault. It could also open the door to meaningful conversations. There is great, untapped power in the flexibility inherent within the admission: "My fault". It merits who you are and gives more reasons to others to trust you.

We have all failed sometime or the other in accepting ownership to faults and for some the count can increase if we accept “when a flock loses its way the fault lies with the shepherd”.
