In moments of tragedy – illness, accidents, natural disasters we rarely ask “WHY NOT ME”. Yet when observing wealth, success, possessions, privileges of others “Why Not Me” arises easily.

The ‘Why ME’ needs understanding and right application – both in good times and bad times. Spiritually speaking “Why Me” can serve as a powerful learning process, especially during challenges.

Scriptures addresses the human reaction of "why me?" by guiding one away from self-pity toward an understanding of a greater cosmic order - the law of karma - and acceptance of the Divine Will (Hukam)

Gurbani teaches that suffering itself becomes the teacher. It reminds us that "Suffering is the medicine and pleasure the disease, because where there is pleasure, there is no desire for God". Hardship often turns the mind toward spiritual wisdom and self-improvement – growth that may not arise during times of comfort.

Lessons learned through pain and suffering may appear unfair from a limited human view yet they often arise from the unseen balance of karma each soul carries. Such phases are not punishments, but gentle – sometimes firm - catalysts for self-awareness, inner strength, and spiritual growth. Actions and speech, whether knowingly or unknowingly expressed in ego, harm, dishonesty, or disregard for others, leave impressions that surface with time.

Though they may not invite immediate reaction or resistance, the karmic account records all. Under divine grace, sincere remorse, forgiveness, and conscious reconditioning allow these impressions to dissolve, guiding the soul toward clarity, humility, and deeper alignment with Hukam.

“Why Me” finds its truest meaning in the realization the creator has entrusted Me with Myself:  - placing upon me the profound responsibility of being the guardian and steward of my life, character, thoughts, and actions. Become the soul that continuously gives blessings: to loved ones, to those who serve us, to farmers when we eat our food, to laborer's who build the bridges we travel upon. All flora and fauna and indeed all of His creations on land, air and sea deserve our gratitude and respect of Gods will in of each of them.

When you have it all as blessings “Why ME” must always express itself as gratitude – shared generously with others. Caring and kindness then becomes a way of life.

“Why Me” moves one beyond questioning circumstances, into peace and inner strength, recognizing that everything belongs to the creator. It keeps one in constant Simran - of forgiveness, gratitude and an unceasing seeking of His Grace.

Across scriptures, even those considered the most fallen have received mercy and risen to higher states, transforming themselves and others by taking responsibility, refining the mind, and cultivating virtues....… then “Why Not ME”.

I Pray that one’s “Why me” dissolves into remembrance reciting "Tum Karo Daya Mere Saai" SGGS Ang673 a surrender seeking divine mercy, the Naam for eternal peace, freedom from ego, and blissful realization of His omnipresence. May life itself becomes seva, offered humbly at His feet.
