If one is feeling that there is a decline of spirituality and morals you are probably not alone. There is seemingly wide spread greed, animosity, forms of injustice with increasing chaos and virtues fading globally. Prominent are some social and political declines including cracks in family structures. Sadly, besides humanity being harsh on its own kind the nature’s fury with unpredictable weather is also not sparing.

People close to their scriptures are likely to know and say it is the era of decline. The fourth and last dark age in a cycle of four yugas known as Kal Yuga: an age characterized by spiritual decline and wickedness.

What matters most during this period are individuals’ actions and deeds.

‘Actions’ and ‘Deeds’ refer to the things people do, which can be good or evil, physical or spiritual, and are often seen as evidence of their faith and character.  These action and deeds shape our future outcomes and spiritual journeys; they influence our reputation demonstrate commitment.

Our deeds walk with us like a shadow, shaping outcomes and revealing our character. There is also a deed which serves as a formal legal document for property ownership which is better contested and practiced.

Actions and deeds "tell" by providing evidence of our character, intentions, and beliefs, revealing who we are and what we truly stand for and often more so than our words.

The Kal Yuga era is said to increase in falsehood, immorality, and materialism. We all have to realize every action and deed of ours matter to counter the decline.

‘Tell me and I forget’ that’s how it works when young, on maturity the very same respond “if I was involved, I would have learnt”. In which case let’s get concerned to realize the relevance, importance and manner in how we tell things and involve our youngsters.

Any role one holds be it a parent, teacher, guardian, caretaker, employer, public servant or any seat of authority we need to take responsibility - to whisper with our actions and echo with our deeds in telling the younger generation how to appreciate the value of good deeds and dharmic faith in obtaining clarity of consciousness and liberation.

The young have to be told and involved perform good actions and fulfil their personal duties: aligning them with a path of virtue and purpose. A realization to manage the attraction and madness with the five vices that cause sufferings leading one away from spiritual enlightenment and righteous life. Spiritual wisdom and living the path of holy scriptures is the only way to counter the negative influences of Kal Yuga.

Good actions & deeds do serve as an antidote helping to uphold righteousness and spiritual values. Choosing to perform good deeds individuals can develop inner strength, courage and confidence to navigate the challenges of the Kal Yuga leading to a better sense of inner peace.

Good deeds should be done with intention and not for attention. The reward of a good deed is having done it. The image to this post expresses “Our deeds are the seeds and our actions the soil – what we nurture is what we harvest".

Let’s not learn it late with regret and repent that the game of life is lost in the absence of good deeds to our credit, when in the court of the Creator. A verse from Gurbani by Guru Arjan Dev explicitly states, "Kalyug mein kirtan pardhana" (In the age of Kalyuga, kirtan is supreme).

May our deeds be seeds of virtue bringing peace within and harmony around.
