The abbreviation S C stands for Social Consciousness. In Hindi it means Samajik Chetna (samajik chetana). Your first reaction to the abbreviation may have been something else though. The Indian constitution on equality must not allow schedules or provisions for reservations/quotas by political parties, labelling communities in such categories for advantage votes. What governments have to do is provide opportunities to such sections with education, training, skill development by their machinery and institutions and then bring them into the society mainstream, for competitive selections without quotas and reservations. Give them the dignity to compete and make their place as did Baba Saheb Ambedkar and over the years several others from such section have taken to education and training, earning their prominent positions in government and business fields. By designating them in quotas and reservations government actually pass their share of work and responsibilities to industries/entrepreneurs/institutions who under compulsion have to give jobs and responsibilities which some are not competent for.
Social Consciousness is consciousness shared by individuals within a society. Norway stands at position 1 as the most socially conscious country for the year 2020. India stands at 117 among the list of 163 countries. The Social Progress Index measures the extent to which countries provide for the social and environment needs of their citizens. I strongly believe things in our country can change when it becomes important and the conscious of every citizen contributes to the society wherein they live. Social Consciousness is linked to the collective self-awareness and experience of collectively shared social identity. The “We Feeling” is then experienced in members of various cultures and social groups. The social consciousness is not a quality that exists by human instinct; it has to be developed through proper nourishment and inculcation in each individual. Parents, teachers, employers have to take responsibility to educate and develop the understanding in individuals of their role, status, rights and responsibilities. By being aware of our society where we live, even the Socio-political consciousness betters to help individuals in the society to make maximum use of collective life as it is through social life. The positive role of individuals in society will take responsibility to worry about people who are poor, sick, old, etc. The S C what the nation requires is different from what political circles influence. Across the political spectrum, most people experience a gap between the kind of world they see and the kind they want. Pursuing social conscience surely will bridge the gap. Shri Jaggi Vasudeva at an international platform said “If we do not work for individual transformation, talking about world peace is just entertainment”.
Those aware of their Creator and who follow HIS teachings should have no difficulty understanding social consciousness and making more conscious choices to help shape society according to our values. This will only lead to a better social political and intellectual life.
