Common sense is the basic level of practical knowledge and judgment that we all need, to help us live in a reasonable and safe way. It is all about good sense and sound judgement in practical matters and daily actions being pursued.
“The end justifies the means” originates from the most famous writing of Niccolo Machiavelli. Machiavelli endorses with this phrase the approach of doing anything that is required to obtain the end result you desire. The doctrine does not discriminate between the techniques used, be it good or evil, truth or lies and so on in order to obtain the preferred end results.
At tender age for many the equation on the subject was absolute, if you wanted a cookie; you were more than happy to steal a cookie out of your younger sibling’s hands. The end justified the means. As we got older for many a conscious corrective realisation followed but for many it only got stronger and the wrong notions settled well. Feelings make you realize that it’s not socially acceptable to wrongly take what we want, when we want it, and that in fact we need to recognize that ends don’t justify the means. Not everything can be left to self-development. Responsible minds need to nurse and monitor some aspects of common sense within the family circle, teaching institutions and community.
In the Vedic culture there are three codes of (neeti) conduct. Brihaspati–neeti, Shukra-neeti, Kanika-neeti. One has to carefully read their difference but what is normally recommended is Brihaspati Neeti. Exploring your scriptures you will find the wisdom. In Sikhi the journey matters, the journey is to be as important as the destination. They are interconnected and intertwined.
Common sense is acquired with knowledge and judgements but for some it is not easy, then there is another larger population who does not follow scriptures which would have otherwise guided them. The Gods way of living where the end motivates the means keeps its followers conquer their minds well. Deviations from the Godly path people are losing wisdom to make right presumptions about the type and essence of ordinary situations.
Inspired human beings can transform their own lives and lives around them. Common sense needs help and the responsible need to assist. Pedagogy needs inspiration, not just information.
