In the very olden days acquiring spiritual wisdom an ancient language was to be known, one left family and went into caves and on mountains for meditation. Guru Nanak Devji took away such barriers for learning spiritual wisdom. He propagated practicing spirituality doing it in our daily life and by being a family person. True religious discipline is to live correctly amidst the challenges and temptations of the world with all its trouble and joys.

Guru Nank Devji beliefs and practices were transformational and they cut across many religious practices adopted then. His sequential stages to the spiritual path was pursuing moral living, rightful actions, search for divine knowledge, spiritual unfoldment and divine grace the final entry into the realm of Eternal Truth.

In this journey of Truth, acting as barricades are the worldly influences which distract, misguide and delay our process. Often this happens when we have unwanted companions. Two major unwanted companions in this path are Self Importance and Attachments delaying your pursuit to the divine path. The divine’s choice as best companions for you is having Divine Praise (Naam Simran) and Divine Acceptance (Hukum). The twosome will help you realize that Happiness lies within you.

“Through the Guru's Teachings, the True One abides within the mind. The Companionship of the Naam brings the most excellent honor.” SGGS Ang62

“Gurbani has been telling us in its verses Ang45 that in this world and the next, the Lord shall be your friend and companion....

“ O my mind, meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

The Naam is your Companion; it shall always be with you. It shall save you in the world hereafter.

What good is worldly greatness?

All the pleasures of Maya are tasteless and insipid. In the end, they shall all fade away.

Perfectly fulfilled and supremely acclaimed is the one, in whose heart the Lord abides.

Become the dust of the Saints; renounce your selfishness and conceit.

Give up all your schemes and your clever mental tricks, and fall at the Feet of the Guru.

He alone receives the Jewel, upon whose forehead such wondrous destiny is written.

O Siblings of Destiny, it is received only when God Himself bestows it.

People serve the True Guru only when the fever of egotism has been eradicated.

Nanak has met the Guru; all his sufferings have come to an end.”

There are many to experience, in good times having many companions around, but in bad times there is no one at all. That’s when realisation to the teachings of Gurbani preaching’s ‘to stay connected to the lord shall be your only Help and support’, makes more sense.
