The expression Copycat has been recorded to be used since 1896. A person who adopts the appearance or behaviour of another especially in an obvious way is generally termed as a copycat. The copycat tendency is normally during childhood to teenage phase of development, but is soon replaced with one’s own individuality. The people who think little of themselves or fail to better themselves, copying/imitating others substitute their failure of personal creativity. If the person tends to continue he is missing a core sense of who they are and trying to fill their emptiness emotionally. Sadguru Vasudeva’s one liner on this “As long as you think someone else is responsible for the way you are, you cannot become the way you want to be.” The use of the word copycat is generally considered derogatory for a person who imitates someone else.

The “Original’s” in business/commercial activities have difficulty in accepting copycats, to a level their focus gets diffused monitoring copycats and even spending legal time and money in trying to stop them. It needs maturity to understand while it may be easy to copy a product/strategy but it’s always very hard to replicate the “originals” success. Sadly in Kaliyuga “sharing” concept is over shadowed by I, Me, My, Mine possessiveness all the time.

In English, the word “copy” & “follow” are used interchangeably there by diluting the entire meaning of the words. “Copy” is an act of copying the result. “Follow” is an act of knowing the process through which the result was achieved and then copying the process. Following someone is imitating the principle behind the action. Wish to mention another related word to follow i.e. emulate. This word seems to be a more specialized word with a purely positive function, meaning to try to equal or match. Let’s distance traits of being a copycat but emulate Gods Character in our life. We need to advise and mentor younger generations to emulate people of faith instead of Entertainers.
