Children as early as 4-5 years old are taught that all advancement comes through competition. Gradually growing up most do not have sense of their competence, become competitive because their only pleasure is to fail other and be one step on top of the other. Some call this as sickness as the human mind is being taught causing so much unpleasantness on our planet.
In an holy scripture there is a mention -
“One sure way to be miserable in life and displease God is to compete with each other.”
A simple review what drives competition - “I want to be better” - Pride. “I get a reward for winning” - Greed. “I want what they have” - Envy.
A Post mortem of competition across all institutions will reveal stories of depression, suffering and even human losses as some could not overcome failures. Pressure of losing in competition people indulge in wrongful gains, losses and fragmentation of society. Some business houses do not fight competition they buy them, yet others destroy them and then buy them at unfair terms. The price to get into some competition is so high winners of such competition express their brutality in charging for their services later. Today competition is very much part of our system & many still do not find the need to file an FIR on Competition. Much damage is done, however some intellectuals do not turn a Nelson eye to this social problem but are effecting changes in their space. Sadguru Vasdeva is one such person. He and others like minded believe to do what you want to do well you don’t have to compare with anybody. They educate at their schools where children are not graded, looking at them like individuals as what we can do to evolve them to their fullest possibility. It is a wrong idea when you are pushed to the wall you will do your best. A whole lot of die-hard competitors are today collaborating with each other.
Collaboration a collaborative process is far more powerful process than a competitive process. Human potential is at its best if you are blissful and pleasant as only then you do your best to everything around you. People taking positions of power and responsibility must introduce and exercise competence building. To judge skills, ability & activity with competence as tool rather than competition.
