OF THE SOUL

In Bhagavad-Gita Lord Krishna advises Arjuna, “The body and the soul are different.” A clarity for beginners in spiritual education. Teachings of certain religion mention soul as that part of you that will go to heaven and the immortal. In spirituality the soul is the incorporeal essence of a living being. At times it is also linked as the emotional or intellectual energy or intensity.

Sharing a few extracts of a conversation by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada ji on “When the Soul Misuses His Independence”. “The senses are different outlets for the activities of lust. Lust is reserved within the body, but it is given vent through the senses. The soul is above not only the mind but also the intelligence. Beyond the mind, there is the intelligence and beyond the intelligence, there is the soul. So coming to this platform of the soul requires the process of meditation—to make our sense activities calm, quiet and our mind settled, so that we can then rise to the intelligence platform and eventually to the spiritual platform. Even though the soul is the master of intelligence, mind and the senses, still, unless it is strengthened by association with Krishna in Krishna consciousness, there is every chance of falling down due to the agitated mind, which is material life. Material life means misusing the independence of the soul. An example A son’s duty is to obey his father. But he may not obey. That is his madness. He falls down on account of his independence.”

Today 15th August a political Independence is in celebration. My Prayers reach out for those who misuse the independence for their gains. Happy Independence to the awakened souls where Independence is the freedom of the soul, a controlled mind, intelligence of awareness to keep nation first and a feeling understood by the heart which stays in its right and gives other their rights not just this day but for honouring values of Independence every single day.

Gurbani has referred to soul around 1321 times. “Soul, mind, body and breath of life belong to God; eliminate your self-conceit. Meditate, vibrate on the Lord of the Universe, and all your desires shall be fulfilled; O Nanak, you shall never be defeated." SGGS 1007.

Beautiful are those feet which walk towards You; beautiful is that head which falls at Your Feet. Beautiful is that mouth which sings Your Praises; beautiful is that soul which seeks Your Sanctuary. SGGS

I am sure on rare occasions you have come across living beautiful Soul and you feel at peace. Their presence is never forceful but gentle and helpful with guidance with positivity. Their energy is contagious and they like to see others succeed. Intriguing and enlightened, they are kind to all living things. Beautiful souls are having integrity, possessing inner peace and living in joy regardless of external conditions. They take responsibility for their actions, practising mindfulness. Life could be lived like they do.
