The human mind has always been raising questions. Be it the kings or the common man all have been in some state of confusion. In the early era of humanity there was the presence of divinity that put human’s confused minds to rest with their wisdom and set them on the right path.
Gulam Kadar Badshah came to know of Guru Nanak Devji’s presence in Baghdad and his influence on his people, he invited him to his place. A tray of jewels was presented and he made Guru Saheb sit on an assan and then goes to sit on his sinhasan. He tells Guru Nanak ji that nobody has given me satisfactory answers to my three questions and if you do I shall accept you as my Murshad.
His three questions were;
Khudha ( Raab) se Pehale Kaun tha?
Khudha hai to nazar Kyon nahi ata.?
Agar Khudha hai to karta Kya hai.?
Guru Saheb ji asked the Badhsha to call one person to come count the precious stones next to him. The man starts 1,2,3,4,5, no stop aap bhool Gaye start again. The person starts again 1,2,3 stop you have forgotten start again said Guru ji. The man starts and says 1 and was stopped again you forgot. In response the man said but I have just said 1. Guru ji asked what comes before 1. Now the Badhsha intervened there is nothing before 1. Guruji said like there is nothing before digit 1 “ek Akal parmatma se Pehle bhi koi nahi”. This is an answer to your 1st question, the Badhsha nodded to accept.
Guru Saheb ji then asked for a pot of milk and spoke about the ghee he sees in this. Do you see it; the Badhsha was in disagreement? The processing of the milk to curd then malai and then is what we get as ghee. The ghee was within the milk. Likewise Khudha is within all his creations but we fail to realize HIM. As fragrance of flowers is not seen but felt, Khuda ko mehasoos karo. The Badsha seemed to relate and understand the answer for his second question Khudha hai to Kanha hai.
The Badhsha asks his 3rd question. Guru Saheb ji then tells the Badhshah, the one who questions is a vidhyarti, he should be sitting down and the teacher should be on a high pedestal. The Badhsha made Guru Sahebji sit on the sinhasan and went and sat on the floor. He then says ab batado Khudha hai to kya karta hai. Guru Nanak Devji smiled and replied. Fakir ko raj gadhi pe betha deta hai, Raja ko jameen par la deta hai.
The Badhsha was convinced and accepted Guru Sahebji as his teacher.
