Tongue (jaban) in humans is to help with taste, eat, digest, speak and while you chew the tongue assists with moving the food and swallowing. The tongue seems a small thing but has much damaging capabilities, so Jaban sambhal ke….

Words have the ability to inspire, encourage, and elevate, but they also have the ability to hurt, discourage, and tear down. The amazing truth about the human tongue, one uses it from birth but takes a lifetime to learn when, where to use it. Over the years blessed to be a listener and confidant to a few souls who shared happenings in their lives, their sharing became good learning for me. Looking back all what stressed them gradually affected their health, the pain and suffering for most was receiving gyan by loose tongues that were owned by their very near and dear ones.

The tongue is but a small boneless soft flesh yet capable of breaking the strongest bonds destroying the warmest of relationships mostly unconsciously. A loose tongue is a serial killer; when it is active to be part of unnecessary discussions, unsolicited comments and excessive curiosity to matters that do not belong to you. Doubtful but still wanting to have the last word, frequent lying, discouraging, suspicious, fault finding, gossiping and slandering are all evils of loose tongue. Often such tongues are backed by having some authority, an older in a relationship, work position, a financial superiority, dominance of a generation, or some dominating situation/condition over the other.

At the receiving end a listener who holds his/her tongue is often wrongly misunderstood to be weak. Souls that value relationships and bonding hold their tongue. While doing so some are unable to tame their mind from forming disturbing thoughts which sadly leads to depression and other health complexities. A disturbed mind hops on to any advice and in one such case a person when advised to develop characteristics like the sea; being noisy and rough on the surface but still and calm deep down. The individual interpreted the advice and stopped holding the tongue, became reactive and noisy. While there was calm and a feel good factor in mind it destroyed relations.

Examining the tongue of patients’ physicians find out the disease of the body and philosophers the disease of the mind, where do we stand. A few learning’s about managing our tongue may just do well. A deceitful tongue crushes the spirit hence imperative we learn about the tongue that brings healing. Having a broad tongue is because of the narrow mindedness thinking. A coward’s courage is his tongue, be careful as words reveal our character. Safest is the tongue that connects to the mind first and then speaks. The ungrateful heart badly influences the tongue hence never trust your tongue when heart is bitter. Be in the present as living in past makes the tongue to complain and keep digging into old matters for which forgiveness was given but unable to forget. Have fun but never at the cost of others, more so ensure when you use your tongue it has lost the power to wound. They just do not say ‘Wisdom comes with a silent tongue.’

A read about tongue in Holy Scriptures of Bhagwat Gita, Bible, Gurbani, Quran, one gets to know its importance and strictures they all have expressed.

A simple beginning for souls is to surrender & pray to the Divine….“Teach me your ways lord help me control my tongue and speak words that encourage & build others up”
