Contd….. “’Suffering is a consequence of ignorance’
Educated and successful people seem to have it all but do not necessarily know it all. The swami speaking to the businessman tells him he is like many others to experience suffering because of his ignorance overlooking small truths of life. Identifying with your knowledge will always be a memory of limited thinking. In fact some things as I tell you will confuse you. Nature of the mind is best when confused. The enormity of a confused mind is not understood by most. It is in this state the mind is exploring more than it knows; it is alert and conscious, in awareness of the surrounding with self-understanding and also managing it.
The swami asks the businessman to first and foremost accept he does not know it all, as he can only then experience a change in his condition which he alone has been responsible for. Intelligence is at it best when you get to know you do not know. Over the years longing to expand and in pursuit of happiness you indulged in many activities to possess them; be it education, carrier, family, wealth, children, business etc. It is foolish to believe what you plan for future based on assumptions and uncertainty, all will necessarily happen the way you want. Life is expected to throw what it has to when it has to. Life means no harm but your learning’s failed to deal with it and you become miserable. The spirit of a true sportsperson is ‘wanting to win, but must be willing to lose’. What you planned and worked on is with uncertainty, you tried to figure life when truly you had to become life.
Externally better equipped, comforts, accessories of life, you are having it all but you are miserable. Simply saying the least you’re amount of life is now structured around insecurity. Body and mind comes from outside. The food you eat becomes your body. Mind is memory of impressions you gathered from outside. What is gathered from outside you can gain you can lose. Everything about your worldly possessions is about its insecurity. Living constantly with something that can be lost you start living an unstable insecure life. What will happen to me and my possessions this problem needs to be driven out of the mind. Totally lost in the instincts of your survival you cannot think about yours or others wellness and be joyful.
You need to work on yourself. Instead of worrying what life should throw at you, equip yourself in such a way whatever it throws at you will make it into a possibility. The world surely is not likely to happen your way but what happens within you must happen your way. The more active you are the more unexpected things can happen to you. Who you are will find expression only being pleasant with yourself.
Your bundle of thoughts with assumptions and sticky emotions dominate, occupying space in your mind and depriving yourself the piece of life or clarity you deserve. Do not enjoy other people’s failure, do not use tongue to bad mouth others. Do no lie, do nothing to spread hatred, embrace and not conquer, compete to better yourself, include others as a part of yourself, your life will become an expression of joyfulness not a pursuit of happiness.
We are reaching the end of our journey. If the pain of your ignorance is realized within, you are making a beginning & soon the divine intervention will follow too.
The swami’s parting words of wisdom “Do not misunderstand life to make you significant. You are to make life significant…… you are insignificant.”
