Moral Science (Naitik Vigyan) is called the science of human soul; it's a mirror of one's inward mind, one's ethics, inculcates values in mankind and value education. .

The main thrust of Indian medieval literature has been on moral values. Guru Nanak Dev ji based the moral code of Gurbani on revolutionary lines as a result of which these values became the main pivot of constructive life. In Gurbani the tradition of these values is material, intellectual, spiritual and moral in nature, it prepares the ordinary man to play his social role effectively. This role determines the conduct of man in the social context.

Moral Science having objective values and principles became a universal subject teaching ways and behaviour that you have got to follow in order to mingle & get along in society keeping up with various relationships. Johann Herbert (1776-1841) was a German educator most notably known for his work in moral education. Not only he laid the foundation for moral education he also developed an approach to teaching morals as well as other subjects. The world we live in today is undergoing rapid changes; there is conflict of culture, not a single code of ethics but presence of multiple values and rules. It is beyond denial society is fast losing or some would say has already lost much of its faith in the ethical values of humanity. We have at various stages exercised or advised propagating bookish knowledge and often missed on moral learning’s which deepens our cognitive understanding. It’s this mental action or process that would help acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experience and the senses.

Today’s generation needs to know Moral Education has been an ancient discipline long before there were educational institutes. Being a permanent and prominent part of life people then knew it as the virtue of their ancestors and its importance of moral values. Way back there were times educational institutes used to have moral education classes, stories from great epics, fables and folk tales of the land were told and students were asked to tell the moral. The young impressionable mind was thus inspired by these and they in turn would exercise disseminating what they had learned.

Do we do that today? Well if you are blessed to have accumulated these learning and they are part of your life, try to figure out how you can inculcate and infuse these values among those who surround us and have little or none. It could be part of your trainings, curriculum, notice boards, storytelling, notice board, messages, political and organisation agenda etc.

It is beyond denial professional oriented science has taken priority and science for the soul is hardly taught hence recent generations understandings and expressions are often compromised. We are all born as empty vessels which can be shaped by moral values.

To educate a person in the mind but not in morals

is to educate a menace to society.
