A class teacher asks students to express ‘Remove’ in different words and as they said the teacher wrote them on the blackboard. (clear away, eliminate, dispose, get rid of, take out, abolish, withdraw, do away with, cut, detach, unfasten, pull out, take out, sponge out, wash off, strike out, amputate, ink out, chop off, delete, erase, confiscate, undo)… the teacher intervened that’s enough.

Next the teacher asked the students how many among them have things to tell others what he or she must remove from their individuality. Give me a show of hands to which immediately all hands were up. He then started writing a few words on board; sorrow, dislike, regrets, distrust, slander, fear, anxiety, envy, selfishness, haunting memories, lust, inferiority, comparing, resentment, bitterness, to lie, use foul language, scarcity, doubts, worry and distress. On completion asked for a show of hands by those students who from this list have 5 or more things that bothers or influences them. This took time but eventually all students had their hands up. With deep concern the teacher questioned why it is not easy to work on self and remove things that one suffers in self-pain.

As humans we have different experiences of life with our developed core characteristics, feelings, psychology, behaviour and dispositions influencing our intellect (mind) to make choices. In doing so one is often occupied disputing the self. Early and regularly do asses how are you doing. The chosen wrong doing may have superseded the neglected tough and right doing.

Being senior students the teacher expected each to have taken initiative and with inputs from family have some idea what their Holy Scriptures reflects. To refresh their mind he said the very basic understanding from all scriptures is about knowing the Creator and His will. How one must live life the creator’s way? Why resist temptations and strengthen our discipline to overcome hardships and challenges. How one’s wrongful desires helps 5 spirituality thieves to steal inner peace and hold spiritual growth distancing one from Divine’s connections.

Karmas (our actions) if stained or polluted by sins, can only be cleansed (removed) by Nam Simran (lovingly remembering the Name of the Lord). By knowing the Lord, homecoming is made easier as one does not have to travel far to seek forgiveness; the Divine is within each one.

The teacher emphasised as human beings our real and major purpose or business in life is with our own mind. Spiritual understanding and development is realised as we discipline and control the mind. A quote of Kabirji in Gurbani says “one has not met anything like the mind”.

The overflow of shabads - nam simran helps remove the egotistical pride the arrogance of intellect, washing away pains of death, rebirth and helps healing from diseases.

Divine connect with trust and faith removes sorrow and anxiety. It is by kind mercy of saints the emotional attachment and fire of doubts is removed.

Selfishness, ego & conceit when removed one feels closer to God & relates with much peace in life.

Replacing hate with love, and anger with kindness, it improves one’s actions to receive His kindness and glorious greatness.

What, When, How, Why ‘To Remove’ is easy for those humble servants who sing the Lord’s praises. Remaining ever awake day and night they are not affected by charms and spells nor are they affected by the evil eye.

In the modern world distancing from scriptures frequently adopting bad characteristic traits, struggling only for worldly desires and neglecting the soul of its consciousness, it only results in losing and missing many pieces of Heaven on Earth.
