The word ‘You’ is used to refer to a person or people the speaker is addressing. You (you’re) has featured almost 15,710 times in Sri Guru Granth Sahebji. Our Guru’s (speakers) in our scriptures refer to mortals like us as ‘You’ and also the Creator as ‘You’.
Expressions of the universal creator are ‘Hukum. The mind that relates to Hukum befits that soul being alive in the human form.
Let’s reflect on the first You in the 1st Ang as part of the first question among the many addressed to mankind by Shabad Guru.
So how can you become truthful? And how can the veil of illusion be torn away? “Kiv sachi-aaraa ho-ee-ai kiv koorhai tutai paal’.
‘O Nanak, it is written that you shall obey the Hukum of His Command, and walk in the Way of His Will. “hukam rajaa-ee chalnaa naanak likhi-aa naal. Hukme hovan akar” .........
The Hukum has to be obeyed, it is not an option. The Guru Granth Sahebji wisdom is for all mankind which guides humans while you live in knowing the Hukum, being with Hukum, understanding, accepting and practicing Hukum unconditionally.
“By His Hukum, bodies are created; His Hukum cannot be described.’’
‘’By His Hukum, souls come into being; by His Hukum, glory and greatness are obtained.’’
‘‘By His Hukum, some are high and some are low; by His Written Hukum, pain and pleasure are obtained.’
‘‘Everyone is subject to His Hukum; no one is beyond His Hukum.’’
‘’Some, by His Hukum, are blessed and forgiven; others, by His Hukum, wander aimlessly forever.’’
“Everyone is subject to His Hukum; no one is beyond His Hukum”.
Accepting Hukum terminates the senses of self-esteem or self-importance (ego). In situations of harsh realities the blessed souls follow the understandings of the Hukum to manage them well. Many people do not like being told, hence often the Hukum is ignored and what takes position is their ‘Maan ka shor’ giving them a feeling of power only to be surrounded with pain and sorrow later. Gurbani cautions the mortal “You have no power to act, speak, to beg or give, no power to live or die”. We also need to get out of the idea the universe or Hukum is ever against us. The conflict of Hukum with mind is your chosen fantasy. Give up what is not your role; this should have happened, that should not have happened. It’s never late to empower yourself with Guru’s teachings and be rest assured Hukum will forgive your errors, sins, and failures bestowing HIS blessings.
“Sabh Gobind Hai sab Govind hai, Bin Govind Koi Nahi”. Hukum is everything, without Hukum there is nothing at all. He is in You and others, why then the hatred. Why keep blaming and complaining. The person who is blaming is Hukum. The person you are blaming about is Hukum.
Knowing Hukum is when you can see You & You in all mankind
& and not when it is You v/s You.
